A Church United to Enjoy God's Grace and Extend His Glory
Here at First Baptist Marionville, we exist for the love and service of the God revealed in Jesus Christ. We want to achieve this purpose with three goals:
1.) To be a Church United
Jesus prayed in John 17:20-22 that those who believed in Him would be one, just as Jesus and the Father are one. Jesus also says in John 13:35 that all will know who His disciples are, based on whether, and how, they love one another. Paul pictures the church as a body (Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12:12-30; Ephesians 4:16), and a temple/building (1 Corinthians 3:16-17; 2 Corinthians 6:16; Ephesians 2:21) - both pictures of things that are diverse in shape and form, but unified in essence and purpose. We want to live out that sort of unity - making the most of our diversity so that our unity can be shown through our purpose.
2.) To Enjoy God's Grace
In Psalm 16, David says "You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore." (Psalm 16:11 ESV). This is the grace of God that we seek to enjoy at First Baptist Marionville. Christ has won for us, through His death on the cross, the opportunity to confidently approach the throne of God (Heb. 4:16; 7:25; 10:19-22). Because God has given us His presence in the Holy Spirit, we can have confidence in His word. Through His Spirit, he will "make known to us the path of life". We can enjoy God's gift of enabling us to live according to His word, and since we can do that, we can draw near to Him.
At First Baptist Church, we seek to draw near to God both individually and as a church. As we read, pray, and worship at home by ourselves and with our family, we enjoy the fullness of joy that God gives us. But we seek to enjoy His presence much more fully as we come together as a united body that has been gifted by Him for His service. We do this by coming together to worship Him through song (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16), teaching (Colossians 1:28; 3:16; 1 Timothy 4:13; 2 Timothy 3:16), and fellowship with one another (Acts 2:42; Philippians 2:1-4). These things allow us to show that we view what God has done for us in Jesus Christ as something valuable and enjoyable.
3.) To Extend God's Glory
Here at First Baptist Church, we want to spread God's glory for two reasons. Because God's grace is valuable to us, and we want to invite others to take part in that joy, and because God has said that His glory will extend throughout the world, which we desire to see (Psalm 57:5, 11; 72:19; 73:24; 102:15; 108:5; Isaiah 6:3; Isaiah 66;19; Habakkuk 3:3). We seek to do this by fulfilling the Great Commission: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you..." (Matthew 28:19-20 ESV).
We seek to go and make disciples in our community, both individually and as a church. However, it is also vital to us that we support global missions in diverse ways. We seek to support missionary efforts through our giving at First Baptist Church. We give to our Local Cooperative Program, so that we can have a hand in the missionary efforts of the Southern Baptist Convention. We also seek to support, through various means, missionaries who we are familiar with. Various groups in our church team up to help supply various missionaries and missionary efforts with things they need for their ministry.
It is our desire here at First Baptist Church to see the glory of God spread through Marionville, MO, and anywhere else God allows us to be used in spreading His glory.
